A good stash of premium hazelnuts should always be handy in your pantry. Also known as “filberts” hazelnuts are meaty, with a sweet flavor. They’re essential for many pastries, desserts, a variety of baked goods, plus they add a great crunch to salads. We carry a wide variety of hazelnuts, including whole, raw, roasted and more, in convenient re-sealable containers that make it easy to use and store.

Hazelnuts are a staple in many dishes, but most predominantly found in pastries and confections, where the nut is sometimes churned into the famous Nutella spread. Also called filberts - some say due to the feast of St. Philbert, which falls in August, peak hazelnut harvest time - here in the US you’ll find them by the name of cob nuts or just hazels. Hazelnuts are grown mostly in Turkey, Spain, and Italy, and here in America in Oregon.
You’ll also probably have heard of Gianduja, a chocolate-hazelnut confection of Italian origin, made of chocolate and 30% hazelnut spread. This is mostly presented in solid bars, but also a filling for pastries, bonbons and served with mousses and gelato.
Besides the sweet and savory appeal of hazelnuts, there’s much to say about the nutritional aspect - hazelnuts boast plenty of nutrients and healthy fats, albeit in a high-calorie packaging. They have a high amount of vitamin E, plus they’re loaded with Manganese. The high fat content is mostly polyunsaturated fats which contain omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. Another plus? A high phenolic compound content, great antioxidants which protect from oxidative stress, and help protect against heart diseases, inflammation and help decrease cholesterol.
Nuts in general are a great healthy snack - in moderation - so make sure you have some hazelnuts around your desk for when those mid-morning hunger pangs attack. Our hazelnuts come in a variety of presentations, including hazelnut flour, a Paleo-friendly, gluten-free flour perfect for gluten-free desserts. You can also use it as a great alternative to breading!
